Torrance House travelled to Whitehaugh on Saturday 02/06/12 for their 2nd league game of the season and returned to winning ways.

After last weeks disapointing batting performance, Torrance House were determined to raise their game this week. Winning the toss and deciding to bat on a wicket which seemed to suggest help for both bat and ball, the Torrance House team set about building a commanding score. An early wicket for the home side brought about the decisive batting partnership of the day when Gavin Meikle (58) and Alistair Dalgleish (41) put on 102 runs for the second wicket. Gavin scored his 2nd league 50 for the club with a mature and composed innings full of good shots and sound solid defence, Ally played a typical innings also and at 112 for 1 Torrance House were in complete control of the match. A mid innings wobble threatened briefly to undermine the start however the innings was re built with good partnerships and contributions from Gareth Urqhuart, skipper Alan Meikle and under 18 captain Arjun Lali before Torrance House closed on 236 for 9.

The Torrance House bowlers set about their task of bowling the opposition out and were immediately faced with a counter attack from the Home side. Whitehaugh's skipper playing in pinch hit mode sprayed shots all round the wicket and dished out heavy punishment to the Torrance House opening attack Steven Mann and Nick Ralphs. One superb over from Nick Ralphs which yielded 3 wickets (including the home skipper) proved the match winning moment as Torrance House were able to regain a stranglehold on the match. Nick finished with 5 wickets (the top 5 in the opposition)in his 10 overs. Steven Mann bowled his usual excellent spell with only 1 wicket in his 10. After the early counter attack, wickets fell regularly with Gavin Meikle (released from wicket keeping duties) taking 2 wickets and Ally Dalgleish chipping in with the last 2 wickets. Although the Whitehaugh tail wagged the total proved too much to chase down and Torrance House finished winners by 91 runs.

After 2 games Torrance House sit in 2nd position in what is looking to be a close league. Next week Meikleriggs are the visitors to Torrance House
