Billy Dane transformed from uncoordinated youth to footballing superstar whenever he wore the special football boots. Was it a similar metamorphosis on Saturday when the meek ! and mild mannered ! Timmy brought himself on to bowl and promptly put on a pair of sunglasses on what was the dullest weekend of the year? It certainly seemed to do the trick
Saturday saw the 2's at home to Titwood in the Western Cup.
Winning the toss, EK asked the opposition to bat first, although the EK side was weaker than in previous weeks, the mixture of youth and experience looked matched by a similarly configured Titwood team.
After the first 20 overs the score stood at 70 for the loss of 2 wickets with the match evenly poised. The following 20 overs however brought 138 runs with 7 wickets falling. The resulting total of 209 for 9 always looked like 50 runs too many. Bowling honours for Nick Ralphs (4 for 40) and Rizwan (3 for 33) and again mention to Tommy Turner (under 15) who kept wicket very well taking 2 excellent catches. Debut also to Calum Watson (under 15).
In reply, the EK batters struggled to score runs fluently and only briefly threatened the run chase. The Titwood bowlers were able to tie the EK batters down in the middle overs. Despite 47 from A Meikle and 40 from N Ralphs EK were only able to score 128 for the loss of 4 wickets in the 40 overs.
In the end a convincing victory for Titwood, next up for the 2's a Home tie with St Michaels in the same competition
