2s achieve first league win of the season

On arriving at the large expanse of open land that houses the GHK ground it was clear that for anyone over 40 – quite a large number of the team – any where between 4 and 6 tops would be required. Fortunately young people don’t feel the cold as David J had turned up with no kit whatsoever.

Having lost the toss and after getting well wrapped up Torrance H (TH) proceeded to put together a match winning score. Alan M and Ally M (41 runs) showed the benefit of application and not panicking as TH got off to a relatively slow start against a decent seam attack.

With a foundation laid the scene was set for Kampmann the elder (65 not out) to come and bash the ball around. He has been agitating for a move down the order but as he averages 94 after the first 2 league games that isn’t likely to happen. He can of course continue to snooze at slip during fielding.

The other noteworthy contribution came from Gavin Meikle – 40 odd years younger than BK – who took his chance up the order to protect Brian from the strike (surely not playing for his average?) and play some excellent cricket shots in his 25. Looks talented – must be in the genes – I have heard his mum excels at beach cricket.

Having posted 209 the memories of having 230 chased down the week before were around but this week it wasn’t a Torrance H mega strip and the bowling clicked.

David J made an early break through and showed decent nip but it was the left arm spin twins, Tahir 3-28 and Vishal 3-26 who did most of the damage bowling really well with none of the GHK batsmen coming to terms with their turn and variation. Tahir also took 2 excellent catches although the captain would prefer him to use 2 hands for chances off his bowling in future – for the others the one handed exhibition stuff is obviously the way to go.

The ground fielding was also very good on what was a very bumpy outfield – the rugby posts at either end of the ground explained why. A number of contenders for ground fielder of the day although Natt C was probably most effective of all. The individual highlight however came from Alan M who having positioned himself at sillyish (quite a few yards away ) mid off proceeded to perform a triple toe loop ice dancing type move when the ball came towards him in the air.

In the end GHK were all out for 98 after 28 overs as TH took their first 25 point haul of the season and left (after a very rare drink on opposition’s premises!!) looking forward to the next outing.
