No real need to labour this match report out. It was a quick game, over in less time than the time taken to drive to Dumfries and back again. Torrance House suffered an 11th hour call off, meaning we only travelled with 10 men. We neednt have been too apprehensive, because when we got there, Kingholm (St Michaels 2nd XI) only had 8! Exam season and calls offs biting hard for both teams!
An 'agreed' toss saw Kingholm batting first. I opened with Nick and bowled poorly (best described as something that smells bad and rhymes with night?) to allow their opener Heron to get off to a flyer. However Nick isnt called the Machine for nothing and nabbed two quick wickets at the other end whilst being miserly as usual! He was well supported by the rest of the bowling lineup and Shahid Mahmood got 3 wickets, David Gallagher got 1 and there was a superb runout by Gavin Meikle behind the stumps. Kinghom all out for 87 with a disappointing 16 of them being wides.
A quick turn around and the danger with a low score is charging at it hell for leather for falling on a banana skin. However, with Kingholm only having 8 and Alan Meikle anchoring with a solid 28, the total was reached in 14 overs.
Quick mention to Kingholm, who were fine, pragmatic hosts on a lovely day down in Dumfries- they also put on a cracking tea! Look forward to hosting them later in the season when we are both at full strength. If the spirit of this game carries over, its sure to be a great game to be in and around!
