2s start campaign with heavy defeat

After last week’s cancellation Torrance House travelled to the south side of Glasgow to face Clydesdale 2s who had opened up their campaign with a win the previous week.

With many players unavailable and a few injuries in the team it was always going to be difficult for EK but the cause wasn’t helped by poor shot selection and running between the wickets after skipper Mann had lost the toss and EK were put into bat.

It was a disastrous start when Glenn was run out and debutant Sam Cole was bowled in the first two overs leaving EK at a dismal 3-2. The ship was steadied when Gareth Urquhart came to the crease but another run out saw Shahid Mahmood head for the pavilion and it was 18-3. A host of poor shots followed as EK slumped to 47-8. Mann then joined Urquhart and the only two players who managed double figures took the score to 61 before Gareth was caught behind.

Mann was then caught at mid on trying to force some late runs and the innings was done. 69 all out. A very disappointing effort. Clydesdale bowled well but not well enough for EK to manage such a paltry total.

Stevie Mann opened the bowling with Sam Cole then Iftikhar and Usman came on but EK could not create any pressure and no wickets fell. The day was summed up when Shahid could only manage 4 balls of his first over before a back injury meant he couldn’t continue. Chasing such a low target their was little pressure on the Clydesdale batsman and they reached victory without loss of any wickets. It was a decent bowling and fielding effort by EK but the damage had been done in the first innings.

So a chastening start to the league campaign but plenty of cricket still to be played. EK 2s play Uddingston 2s at Torrance House next Saturday.
