Positives to take from trip to the seaside

The summer sunshine continued last Saturday as the Torrance House XI travelled down to Ayr to face the Cambusdoon side. Put Ayr and sunshine together you can guess what kind of pitch you will be given. Nick, captaining the side, managed to win the toss and elected to bat.

This toss came as a delight to the team especially openers Matthew and Alan. The openers had a great start until the partnership was broken and Matthew was bowled. Alan continued to look comfortable at the crease, while a cameo alongside Glenn(28) maintained the positive run rate. However, both batsmen unfortunately lost their wicket - this led to a long partnership between Gregor and Shah. Both remained at the crease until the last ball where Gregor was bowled. The final total was 269 with Gregor scoring 62 and Shah scoring 76. A great partnership between both batsmen and what seemed like a hard chase for the Cambusdoon side.

Unfortunately, when the Ayr openers came out this didn’t seem the case. Both openers attacked until Iftikhar took the wicket of C Henderson. This brought Borland to the middle who went on a big bash alongside R Henderson(90*) surpassing a 100 run partnership. Borland(94)was eventually caught by Dave on the boundary off the bowling of Gaurav. This was far too late after many dropped catches by the side and the two Ayr batsmen achieved the total in 40.5 overs.
