Poor batting display undermines Dr Raj heroics

Another format, another poor batting display by the 2s!

Ayr won the toss and decided to bat first in the T20 Western Cup group opener. The first of four games in the section.
Despite a couple of good shouts in the first over Ayr got through the opening overs unscathed despite some tight bowling. The breakthrough was eventually made in the 7th over thanks to a good catch by Shahid at mid on off the bowling of Nick. Ayr continued to bat steadily and reached 49-1 off the first 10. But with wickets in the bank they put the foot on the accelerator in the second half of the innings scoring almost 90 runs with some big hits and some good running to reach 138. The highlight for EK was two wonderful catches from Dr Raj at deep mid on. On both occasions he looked like he had completely misjudged the ball only to stick out a hand and take them comfortably. Hard to describe just how good both catches were.

A good score for Ayr but on a good wicket with a fast outfield and short boundary EK still had a good chance of victory. Things were looking even better when Gregor hit one of the Ayr bowlers for 23 off an over putting EK in control at 49-1 off 6. But that was as good as it got and wickets tumbled regularly especially to the Ayr leg spinner who picked up five. In fact the EK batters seemed determined to give the Ayr fielders plenty of catching practice and they gratefully made the most of it. Innings finished on 93 all out after barely 15 overs. Very disappointing.

Next game in the group is at Weirs in two weeks time.
