2s go down to second defeat of season

It was another frustrating day for the 2nd XI as they went down by 6 wickets against Weirs at Torrance House.

Weirs won the toss and put EK into bat on a fine afternoon for cricket.
Wickets were soon tumbling though as Liam Flynn and Nasim Malik departed early to the South African seamer Hillyard. Then there was a recovery as Matthew Deighan and Nick Ralphs both got into the twenties but when Matthew was trapped in front it started a collapse that saw EK slump to 77-7.
Then there was a fight back led by the two youngsters Cameron Pietersen and Blair Meikle who batted very well to reach double figures with Steven Mann and Iftikhar Khan helped to stretch the innings out to nearly 42 overs finishing on 131 all out.

Not a great total but one that EK were hopeful of defending on a pitch that wasn’t easy to bat on and with a slow outfield. After poor starts with the ball Mann and Meikle both got in to their stride and got a wicket each to put EK in contention.
It should have been an even better start as Hameed new to the crease was dropped twice in a over off the bowling of Mann. This would particularly crucial as the same batsman helped to carry Weirs home with an unbeaten 59. Hameed and Hillyard took Weirs from a difficult position at 66-4 to victory by 6 wickets.

Frustratingly for the home side, eight chances went down including the two off the over from Hameed. This will have to improve significantly if the Torrance House side want to climb up the Second division table.

Next week we visit Bellahouston Park to take on Victoria.
